Marissa Explains IT All: Episode 2

“What is the Principle of Least Privilege?”

Transcript:

“This is the idea that we should grant people access to only what they need to do their job. For example, someone who doesn’t do payroll as part of their job, shouldn’t have access to payroll information.

Nowadays we’re creating so much more data and we have so much more access to technology, that we have to be thoughtful so that we limit our risk of exposing confidential and sensitive data.

This also goes into the idea that we should only use Admin credentials when it’s absolutely necessary to use them. If you have an Admin account, only use it to do the tasks that require such a wide-access of permissions, and then use a restricted account when you’re doing your day to day operations.

We’re protecting against accidental exposure or a cyber-attack.”
