“DNS is the first step in making your connection to the Internet. You use an easy-to-remember web address like www.worksmart.com, and the computer uses a computer-friendly IP address to load the website.
To connect to the right place on the Internet, your device gets this IP address from a DNS server, but unfortunately, attackers know that this is so commonly used that they actually use the technology to cause harm (malware, ransomware, and phishing scams).
So, DNS Security tools defend against those threats by monitoring for malicious activity and compromised systems on the Internet. It’s like a filter on the DNS layer. It can block access to malicious websites, prevent malware from downloading on a hacked website, protect a user against mistakes like typing in the wrong web address into a browser. It can also stop ransomware from communicating with attackers, so it’s blocks their ability to encrypt data.
All in all, DNS Security (aka a cloud-based tool) can add a layer of protection in the fight against cyber crime.”
