Imperial Center Welcomes WorkSmart, IT Firm Expands Headquarters

Durham, NC – WorkSmart, an Information Technology services company, will relocate its corporate headquarters in the coming weeks, marking its fourth Triangle expansion in the same number of years. Ron Unger, WorkSmart’s founder and CEO, established the company in 2000 from his apartment in Chapel Hill, and soon after moved their office to the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC. Since then, WorkSmart employees have experienced the explosive growth from a one-room work area to their current offices in Durham.

Imperial Center, a multi-building business campus at Page Road and I-40, attracted WorkSmart with its central location and inclusive amenities. The businesses of Imperial Center enjoy jogging trails, restaurants, hotels, and a daycare center. With all points throughout the Triangle, easily accessible, WorkSmart employees will service their clients throughout the region more efficiently. Unger describes WorkSmart’s rationale, “We needed twice as much office space to serve the next few years of growth, but the quality level was of equal importance. We really wanted our people to have the amenities and higher finishes of the Imperial Center.”

WorkSmart must expand its Charlotte operations as well. “This is a very busy time for the company right now. Many of us are working around the clock to ensure the equipment is in place before the moves. One week after the Durham move, we have to do Charlotte. We’re tripling the office-space down there,” explained Clay Harris, Vice President. Later this year, WorkSmart will tackle its third North Carolina market with a Greensboro branch-office expected to open this summer.
